Cactus Skincare

A few weeks ago I posted a recipe for cleaning your home naturally, without using harsh chemicals.  The post received a terrific response with many of you letting me know that you’re also interested in decreasing the amount of contact you have with toxic substances and harsh chemicals.

Well…I’m not just reducing my exposure to chemicals in the cleaning department but also with what I put on my skin  (click now to know about skincare) – I don’t want toxicity there either!

About 10 years ago I was introduced to Cactus Skincare.  Cactus Skincare is an Australian company making skincare naturally and ethically with organic ingredients.

Deborah De Silva is the owner and founder of Cactus Skincare.  Deb has naturally dry skin and couldn’t find a product on the market that gave her the protection a cactus plant has to protect itself from its harsh environment.  From her frustration of not being able to find a product to meet her skin’s needs she did a lot of research into natural ingredients and started making her own products.

In 1990 she started her business very humbly, making her products in her own kitchen and selling to friends and acquaintances.  The business grew and became an Aussie success story and now Cactus Skincare is sold on-line and can be shipped anywhere in the world (within reason!)

They were delivered with potpourri!

They were delivered with potpourri!

I have been using Deb’s products for over a decade and they have served me well.  I’m not looking like one of those ridiculous facebook ads that say, ‘Grandmother of 95 looks 15 after using miracle creme’, so I’m not going to claim that if you use these products you’ll have people thinking you’re decades younger than what you actually are.  But what I can tell you is that my skin feels very hydrated and when I go to the beautician she always comments on how my skin is in very good condition and that it has plenty of moisture.

But beyond the excellent results I’m seeing from this range, I also have peace of mind that there is nothing toxic being rubbed into my skin, that no cruel animal testing ever took place, that I’m using natural and organic products and that I’m supporting an Australian business that makes its products locally and not off-shore.

More of what I buy from Cactus Skincare

My eye cremes and gentle exfoliating scrub

I’m very pleased that my Arabella is taking an interest in her skin.  Independent of me, she went onto the Cactus website and ordered a sample pack for a total cost of $5.00.  It was delivered the next day in an eco-friendly brown paper bag filled with potpourri that I now have in my bathroom.  She received a white clay masque which is good for dragging impurities out of your skin, two lemon myrtle cleansers suitable for all skin types and a light balancing creme for those who don’t need a heavier moisturiser.

By a strange coincidence, on the same day I placed an order for everything I need (and there was quite a list!)  I buy everything in salon sizes so I’m not constantly running out and needing to re-order.  I received my order within 48 hours.

If you’d like to know more about Cactus Skincare you can view their website, like them on Facebook or follow them on Instagram.

This is not a sponsored post;  I just thought if you’re interested in cleaning your home naturally, you would probably also be interested in looking after your skin in the same way.  If you are interested in trying this skincare range, I would recommend ordering the $5.00 sample pack ($10.00 to be shipped internationally).

  7. I have never heard of this brand, but will keep an eye out for it if I ever come across it.

  8. From the photos I’ve seen of you, you’re a walking endorsement for the products 🙂

  9. Great to know, and I just popped over and the cost is $10 internationally, which isn’t too bad!

  10. So that’s your secret, Charlie! Great review, thank you!

  11. Carolyn says:

Thank you Charlie, I had never heard of this brand but will have a look on their website now. The products sound great, appreciate you sharing

  12. I’ll check it out Charlie, I have so many allergies that it’s hard to find something that doesn’t react badly. Lately I’ve been using pure cocoa butter on my skin and avocado oil in my hair- so delicious indeed! 🙂 xox

  13. For some time I have used an Australian brand of natural skincare called Sukin. It sounds like they have a similar culture. I am all for reducing as far as possible the chemicals we expose ourselves to in our daily lives – it’s not easy out there.

  14. G’day Charlie!
Never heard of this Australian product too!
Great endorsement! Will find out more about it for my ULTRA sensitive skin too!
    Cheers! Joanne

  15. How wonderful to see this post and it NOT be a sponsored one. I love products with this sort of endorsement. You have gorgeous skin and if you’d said a couple of decades younger, I’d order a truckload. I love the Cactus idea and in Australia it’s sometimes like that for us.

  16. I use Sukin which has similar non toxic properties – Sukin also produce non-toxic shampoo and conditioner too – so good to know these products are around and are not astronomically expensive either.

  17. Yes, I have used Sukin also . . . well . . . BUT seeing you have been happy I have put the meager $A5 asked down for my samples, which supposedly are sufficient to last a week – that is more than fair enough for me and I’ll let you know whether I think you have opened a Pandora’s Box for me! Thanks!!!

  18. I have dry and sensitive skin, and tend to use hardly anything on it, so I’m always interested to hear of products that might do me good if and when I move into using more products than I usually do! I’m sure not cleansing properly will catch up with me one day…

  19. Hello there, you know when I bumped into you yesterday I was going to say that your skin was looking marvellous. Now I know the secret.

  20. I love that you can buy sample sizes – it’s not often you can do that any more now days and you are a wonderful advertisement for these products Charlie, you look fantastic
    🙂 Mandy xo

  21. I’m with you Charlie – becoming very interested in products that are pure and organic for cleaning the home and the body.

  22. Definitely gonna take a look! It would be more expensive for me since I live in the States, but might not be any more than I spend now and it’s all natural! 🙂 Thanks love…xo

  23. So thats you secret for being hotlyspiced!!!! I will have to see if they have this imported in HK. Take Care, BAM

  24. Sounds like a great range. I use a non toxic range of skin care that’s made locally in NZ, and I admire the innovative people who develop these alternatives.

  25. I think it’s wonderful you’ve made such a conscious choice to eliminate as many chemical preservatives as possible in your skin care products. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this particular brand here in the U.S., but it’s possible. I’ll be on the look-out! 🙂

  26. Where ever we can reduce the chemicals the better. I think the harm they do is cumulative. And an Aussie company is even better.
    Carolyn

  27. I’m a big fan of all-natural skin care too Charlie! Do you use natural makeup as well? I’d love to know what you use if so? It’s not that easy to find!

  28. I will have to have a look for this brand. My skin is sensitive to perfumes etc so I would be very interested.

  29. Just ordered the sample kit, can’t wait to try it! 🙂

  30. Cosmetics derived form organic materials normally would be safer than chemical-based cosmetics. There are so any cosmetics can be used according to people skin type. For me, who have dry skin, it looks like I have to use organic cosmetics that provide long lasting moisture throughout the day.
