Here Comes ‘Rent’, The Musical

Some time ago I mentioned to you that the Music Theatre students of Sydney’s Australian Institute of Music are preparing for their graduation performance.  The musical they are showcasing is Rent.  Rent is set in the Lower East Side of New York and tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create while battling HIV/AIDS.

Archie plays the role of Roger and his love interest in the musical is Mimi and just like Hollywood, Mimi turns out to be Archie’s real-life love interest.

There will be 10 performances open to the public but those in the industry are also invited including casting directors, casting agencies, directors and producers.

If you are in Sydney and would like to see this AIM production, you definitely need to book as it’s being performed in a smallish theatre and these performances are popular.  Here are the dates:

  • 30th August:        11am and 6.30pm
  • 31st August:         2pm
  • 1st Sept:                2pm
  • 2nd Sept:              11am and 6.30pm
  • 3rd Sept:               11am and 6.30pm
  • 4th Sept:               11am and 6.30pm

And here’s the best part – admission is free!  (No wonder people are writing musicals about impoverished young artists).

At this stage I am planning on being there on opening and closing nights.  Let me know if you can come so I can try to see you there.

A few months after Rent, the Music Theatre students will graduate with their Bachelor of Music degrees and be unleashed onto the world’s stage (literally we hope).

Tickets can be ordered on-line.
