The Beach Kiosk, Alexandra Surf Club

I think I’ve told you that when we had our mini-break on the Sunshine Coast, the sun didn’t shine.  But it did come out on the day we were leaving!  We woke to a glorious day of clear blue skies and warm sunshine and as we had just a few hours before heading to the airport, we wanted to spend it enjoying the outdoors.

Walking distance from The Mirage is the Alexandra Surf Club known as Alex Surf Club.  As you would imagine, it’s right on the beach and as their website says, ‘Any closer to the sand and you’d get sand in your togs’.  Upstairs there’s The Lookout Bistro that’s open for lunch and dinner while for breakfast, you can sit outside and enjoy a simple takeaway meal from The Beach Kiosk.

The outdoor seating area looks recently refurbished and is clean and tidy.  You order at the counter and the service is casual as well as friendly.  The menu is limited and there’s nothing gourmet about it but if you’re hungry and looking for an affordable meal in a stunning setting, then this is the place to be.

Carl ordered the Kiosk Special which was the Big Brekky Burger with bacon and egg, salad and a hash brown for $10.00.  It arrived very quickly and it was everything you would expect from a kiosk at a surf club; a no-frills adequate meal.

I ordered the bacon and egg wrap with a hash brown and barbecue sauce.  I thought the hash brown might have appeared on the side but no, it was poked inside the roll along with the egg and bacon.  There certainly was a lot of bacon in this roll and again, for less than $10.00 it was a good breakfast enjoyed with the warmth of the winter sun.

Alfie ordered the French toast that came with maple syrup and strawberries.  I was a little shocked to hear him say that was the very first time he’d had French toast.  He’s nine.  I’ll have to expand my breakfast repertoire.  He enjoyed it although he said he prefers pancakes.

The Beach Kiosk attracts a lot of surfers and responsible pet owners taking their dogs for a walk.  It’s a lovely community meeting place where all the locals seem to know each other and sit around chatting and enjoying the sunshine while waiting on a takeaway coffee or burger.  The outdoor seating area is well-maintained, clean and tidy, the view is awesome and with the Queensland climate, you can enjoy this setting almost 365 days a year.

Verdict:  It’s a shame we couldn’t have stayed longer.

  2. What a stunning beautiful place to dine. You have some many outdoor dining choices. We have so few, at least in outstate Minnesota.

  3. Looks like a great place to spend the day. Nice hearty breakfast at a good price.

  4. You made me smile to learn that you keep tracking on the weather you stay there. I’m glad to hear you got the sun on the last day for the first time! I have this place where we ALWAYS get rain no matter what season we visit. I’m cursed! I guess you will be cooking French toasts once in a while now. 🙂

  5. I’m always amazed that beach restaurants are the fast food variety and not more gourmet, it’s the same here. I’d love a gorgeous beachfront restaurant that you could order delicious food with a glass of wine. I’m glad you got at least one sunny day.

  6. That looks lovely. I haven’t been to the beach in ages — time to plan a trip! Too bad the weather wasn’t kind to you, however.

  7. MMMmmm, those breakfasts look fabulous! And what a beautiful place for a little vacay!! Too bad the sun wasn’t out the whole time! xo

  8. It’s a great spot! I had the breakfast wrap the last time I was there too! 🙂 I’m glad Queensland finally showed you a bit of sun! Liz x

  9. Alfie is so cute, and don’t worry, he will grow up to be a foodie just like you. Lovely place, truly a shame you couldn’t stay longer. But you could always go back.

  10. So glad you finally caught some sun Charlie! Today is so foggy I’m not sure there’s a sun out there at all 🙂 xox

  11. We are so lucky to have so many beautiful coast lines like this in Australia aren’t we.
Next time I hope you get to stay longer!

  12. Hehe you are too funny re Alfie and the French toast! Is it time to prepare a list of things that Alfie should have tried by age 9? 😉

  13. Of the two, I much prefer the Mooloolaba Surf Club for food. I like the Alex location better though for views and beach. The last time I was there I couldn’t eat my chicken burger because it was so dry I would have had to borrow someone else’s teeth. 🙂 You had a real win!

  14. Looks like a great place to hang out.
It’s amazing how everything changes with a bit of sunshine.
So glad you could enjoy the last day with warm weather!

  15. Ooh what a relaxing view! My eyes are also set on the bacon and egg wrap! Looks yummy and meat-packed!

  17. Luckily you had a good breakfast and didn’t have to barrow teeth to do uit. How perfect Charlie sitting at the beach in the sun for breakfast

  18. Looks like a beautiful setting! That’s a bit odd that they put the hash brown in the wrap.

  19. That looks like a glorious morning! I wouldn’t have wanted to leave either.

  20. Hash browns 4 lyfe.

  21. Aww! That’s always how it goes isn’t it. At least you got one day of nice weather?

  22. Now if you could just go back to rest your knees.
    Have a wonderful weekend Charlie.
    🙂 Mandy xo

  23. I’ve had breakfast at the upstairs of this surf club 🙂 I’m glad the sun came out for you – it’s the perfect place to enjoy it!

  24. Looks fantastic Charlie, you are so right about the winter, oh my goodness how different it is then here in Toronto haha <3
Have a good one my friend!

  25. Wow, $10 a plate for such generous serves is a bargain! So annoying about the weather, but at least Qld showed you its best side before you left.

  26. I love lunching at a Surf Club because the food is usually fantastic and the views are unbeatable!

  27. I love the beach in the winter. Looks like a fun time!
